Dog Bunny Ears

First of all: I am very sorry I didn't post for some weeks. It's been a little bit crazy around here but now I'm definatly back! :)
Eatser is not far away. If you're looking for something sweet to crochet, I've got something really nice for you:
The Dog Bunny Ears! :)

I've got to say, they're suiting for kids as well. So, it's also a nice Easter crochet for your children ;)

And they are very easy to make! Don't be scared if you're a beginner, the only skill you need is to do chain stiches, single crochet stiches and decreasing.

Pattern:
ch = chain stich
sc = single crochet stich
dec = crochet two stiches together
I used some worsted weight yarn in light brown and pink and a 5 mm crochet hook.
You will also need a children sized hair circlet to attach the ears to.

The ears are made in four parts: two fronts and two backs crocheted together.

Front (make 2):
ch 13
Row 1: skip 1 st, sc 2 in light brown, change colour to pink, sc 8, change colour to light brown, sc 2, ch 1
Row 2-13: sc 2 in light brown, change colour to pink, sc 8, change colour to light brown, sc 2, ch 1
(if you want the ears to be a bit longer than mine are, just add some more rows at this point)

Row 14: dec, sc 2, change colour to pink, sc 5, change colour to light brown, sc 2, dec
Row 15: dec, sc 2, change colour to pink, sc 3, change colour to light brown, sc 2, dec
Row 16: dec, sc 2, change colour to pink, sc 1, change colour to light brown, sc 2, dec
Row 17: dec, sc 3, dec
Row 18: dec, sc 1, dec
Row 19: dec, sc 1
Row 20: sc 1, cut yarn

Back (make 2):
ch 13, leaving a tail of yarn for attaching the ears to the hair circlet later on
Row 1: skip 1 st, sc 12, ch 1
Row 2-13: sc 12, ch 1
(if you added some rows for longer ears in the front pieces, use the same number of rows for the backs, too!)

Row 14: dec, sc 9, dec
Row 15: dec, sc 7, dec
Row 16: dec, sc 5, dec
Row 17: dec, sc 3, dec
Row 18: dec, sc 1, dec
Row 19: dec, sc 1
Row 20: sc 1, cut yarn

Now you've got the four ear pieces:

Wave in all your ends (except for the tails that you left for using them later). To wave in, thread the yarn into a needle and go through some stiches on the backside with the needle. Do this three times back and forth.

Of course you want the ears to stand upright, so in the next step you're going to add some wire to the ears.
Take some wire and bend it to the shape of your ears. Use a string cutter to cut the wire. You may want to have the wire a little bit longer than I did in the picture because it can be used to attach the ears to the hair circlet. (this gives a better connection than just sewing it on)

Sew the wire onto the back piece of your ear. Thread the yarn tail you left at the end into a needle and sew around the wire. Wave the yarn every time through one or two stiches like it is shown in the picture.

Now your wire is save :)
Do the same with the other back piece.

After that, hold the front piece against the back piece and crochet the both of them together using single crochet stiches.
Put the hook through the stiches on the side of both pieces, gather yarn and finish the single crochet stich.

And there are the two ears ready to be attached to the hair circlet. :)

Hold the ears against the hair circlet and wrap the wire ends around it.
After that use the tails of yarn to secure the ears and to hide the wire.
Thread the yarn into a needle and go around the hair circlet and through the buttom of the ear. Repeat until the first ear is secured. Do the same for the other ear.











Thanks to the wire within the ears, you can now bend them however you want.
I made these cute bunny ears for my sister's lady dog Schnecke. From the pictures my sister sent me, you can see how she likes them, haha!! :)
